Anthony Johnson Reveals New Job After Leaving UFC

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, arguably one of the scariest guys on the planet, has finally revealed for the first time why he’s abruptly decided to leave the MMA world. From the sounds of it, Johnson is about to be trading head trauma for head and body highs by opening a marijuana business of some sort.

Speaking with old school wrestler and former WWE talent Booker T on the “Heated Conversations” radio show, Johnson opened up about his plans for the future. “We’re opening up a facility if you know what I mean,” he said. “It’s for medical uses. … We got some good things going on. It’s already big. We’re just waiting for that law to pass and whenever it passes, we’re golden. We’re playing our cards right, we’re playing by the book, so that way there’s no issue.”

It looks like Johnson won’t be heading to the NFL after all, though this seems like a very interesting business to be getting into in itself. Johnson shocked the mixed martial arts world when he retired immediately after losing to UFC champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 210 back in April, but it wasn’t just the allure of green cash that made him want to leave the sport.

“My health, man,” said Johnson. “You hear about CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) and all this other stuff. Head injuries. You’re harming your body playing football and stuff like that, but this stuff can happen just as fast in mixed martial arts as any other sport because we’re constantly beating on each other. I love myself, you know what I’m saying? A lot of guys don’t think about that.”

Johnson says he was “never a fighter”, but he will go down in MMA history as a man who scared the life out of nearly every welterweight and light heavyweight he ever fought, with all but one victory coming by KO or TKO and only ever losing to Daniel Cormier during his light heavyweight run in the UFC, and even then, he nearly knocked him out!

“If those guys want to go in there and do that to themselves, go ahead, that’s your life, that’s your body, that’s your future,” Johnson said. “But for me, I’m destined to do something greater.
“I just couldn’t do it anymore. You gotta go in there and do your thing. You’ve gotta make your money and get out. That’s why Conor McGregor is killing it. He’s straight killing it.”

“I left on my own terms,” Johnson said. “I left on good terms and I left as one of the best fighters ever in the weight class. I did my job.”
