Anthony Joshua Immediately Called out by UFC Star

The possible super fight between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and retired veteran boxer Floyd Mayweather has left chins wagging around the world. With the match up being such high profile news, it seems other fighters in mixed martial arts have taken note of the amount of money that could be on the line in a combat sports crossover fight, and are now starting to call out other boxing stars.

Stars like UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo, Jimi Manuwa and one of MMA’s greatest, Anderson Silva, have all called out professional boxers in the past. Silva was so set on crossing over for a money fight at one point that he went so far as to call out Roy Jones Jr for a fight! Can you imagine seeing Anderson “The Spider” Silva doing his signature dodging and weaving in front of an animal like Roy Jones Jr?

With Anthony Joshua’s recent knockout victory over Ukrainian heavyweight Wladimir Klitschko, he has now become the talk of the town. Joshua has been called out most notably by the last man to defeat Klitschko, Tyson Fury, who took the veteran boxer to a unanimous decision victory in late 2015. That hasn’t stopped other combat sports stars from calling Joshua out though, with UFC heavyweight star Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos admitting that he would like to take a shot at Joshua.

Speaking with Combate, Dos Santos said he would love to have a boxing match with Joshua, provided of course he does defeat Stipe Miocic to become the UFC heavyweight champion.

“I would love to have a boxing match,” said Dos Santos. “Since I’m going to be the UFC heavyweight champion and there can be only one toughest man on the planet, I would like to fight Anthony Joshua. Champion against champion. It would be sensational.”

Given the absolutely brutal punishment that Joshua doled out to a seasoned boxer like Klitschko, you have to wonder just how well Dos Santos would do against Joshua, even though he is one of the best boxers in the heavyweight division of the UFC.

What do you think? Could Dos Santos do it? Let us know in the comments!
