Conor McGregor BLASTS Showtime Boss About Having His Microphone Cut
During the first press conference for their MayMac tour on Tuesday, Conor McGregor managed to get a hold of a microphone and respond to Floyd Mayweather while he was speaking but quickly, the mic was cut and his responses were muted.
Speaking afterward, McGregor said that he thought it was intentionally cut because the producers didn’t want him chiming in when Mayweather was speaking.
The Irishman was none too pleased about it:
“Yeah, they took the mic off,” McGregor told reporters. “Look, fu*k them. Fu*k Showtime. Fu*k them all. They can do nothing after August 26. They can try and do all these tricks all they want. August 26, this man will be unconscious. He’s too small, he’s too frail. That’s it. What more can I say?”
Later, Showtime issued an official statement denying any involvement in McGregor’s mic being cut. Showtime Sports vice president Stephen Espinoza issued the following statement:
“At no point did Showtime or event productions cut any microphones intentionally during Tuesday’s kickoff event in Los Angeles. The point of this world tour is to let these superstars interact with the fans and with each other. Cutting their mics would go against our goal of delivering these fighters to the masses and letting their charismatic and entertaining personalities take center stage.”
While The Notorious was caught a bit off guard at having to give a speech for the boxing-style presser, he did still manage to produce some classic one-liners that got the crowd going.
But it was later on when Mayweather Sr crashed the print media press conference and said his son would kick McGregor’s “ass” before challenging the Irishman to a boxing match himself, that McGregor really came into his own.
After pretending that Floyd Sr was Floyd Jr for a while, McGregor shot back that they should not have taken this big money fight and that Jr was “going to sleep”.
“Ya’s got greedy and that’s it,” McGregor said. “He could have been 49-0, riding off into the sunset. Trust me, he got greedy here. That was a big mistake. You misadvised him. You should have kept him retired. It’s your fault…Your boy is going to sleep.”
Now the MayMac tour has rolled into Toronto, Canada, and of course, the Irishman had a go at the Showtime bosses after they cut his mic. Check this out – even Mayweather is in stitches!
