Conor McGregor Makes Huge Announcement On Floyd Mayweather Fight
The fight between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather appears to be back on track.
UFC President Dana White made a statement last week that he was giving the fighters until Sunday to come to an agreement or he would abandon negotiations.
That day had come and gone, leaving many to think the fight may be off, however speaking after the NBA on TNT telecast of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers, White provided a massive update.Error, group does not exist! Check your syntax! (ID: 25)
Former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal asked White during the post-game show if the fight was happening.
“McGregor’s side is done, I’m starting to work on the Mayweather side now,” White said, “I got one side done, now it’s time to work on the other. If we can come to a deal with [Al] Haymon and Mayweather, the fight’s going to happen.”
When asked what rules the fight would be under, White confirmed it would be a boxing fight.
“It’s going to be straight up boxing.”Error, group does not exist! Check your syntax! (ID: 27)
And just moments again, Conor McGregor’s website, TheMacLife.com, confirmed that he has signed off on the deal.
“It is an honor to sign this record breaking deal alongside my partners Zuffa LLC, The Ultimate Fighting Championship and Paradigm Sports Management,” McGregor stated.
“The first, and most important part of this historic contract has now officially been signed off on. Congratulations to all parties involved. We now await Al Haymon and his boxer’s signature in the coming days.”Error, group does not exist! Check your syntax! (ID: 23)
Conor McGregor has not fought since defeating Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November to become the UFC lightweight champion, and first ever simultaneous two-division champion.
Whether we will see him back in the octagon this year remains to be seen.
