Conor McGregor’s New Suit Has Set Social Media on FIRE
The boxing super fight for the ages between UFC lightweight champion and mixed martial arts superstar Conor McGregor and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is starting to heat up, as both athletes fronted their first press conference at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles earlier today. It was McGregor’s suit that has set tongues wagging, with images of the controversial tailor made piece circulating on social media immediately after coming to light.
Both fighters have been slinging mud at each other online for over a year now, with McGregor making jabs at Mayweather’s age whilst Mayweather continually flaunts his wealth, waving it in the face of the Irish mixed martial artist. The fight has been hailed as “the biggest sporting event of our lifetimes” by former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub, with the Staples Centre being the first stop on the promotional world tour for the bout.
McGregor walked out on stage first, something he has rarely done throughout his time with the UFC. Often running late to UFC press conferences, it was instead the Notorious’ turn to show up first, posing for promotional photographs and relaxing on stage. Mayweather soon joined him but was quickly accosted with an Irish flag being thrown at him by McGregor.
The fighters soon faced off, talking smack to one another all the while. McGregor danced in front of Floyd, who stood ashen and unmoving in front of his opponent. Soon it was over to the boxing suits to make some statements which were fittingly booed before the crowd went crazy for Dana White’s introduction for Conor McGregor.
“He’s in a f*cking tracksuit,” McGregor said, as soon as he had his hands on the microphone. “He can’t even afford a suit anymore… I don’t fear him, I don’t fear his limited set,” he said. “This isn’t a true fight. If this was a true fight, it wouldn’t take one round.”
The popular fighter’s fans exploded into cheers at that, but Mayweather seemed unphased. “Popularity has nothing to do with what we have in our bank accounts,” he said. “I always chose fortune over fame.”
McGregor’s suit radiated his attitude today in front of Mayweather and his team, with the pinstripes reflecting an incredible message of defiance toward his ageing foe. Check out what the pinstripes said below, and let us know what you think!
