Fighters React to Max Holloway’s Victory Over Aldo

Max Holloway has pulled off the biggest win of his mixed martial arts tenure with an incredible victory over featherweight titleholder Jose Aldo. The Hawaiian managed to come back from some early adversity in the first and second rounds at the hands of his Brazilian opponent, scoring a knockdown that would ultimately earn him the victory.

The first two rounds of the bout saw Holloway looking stiff, trying to establish his timing against the veteran fighter in Aldo. Holloway started to exchange more fluidly in the second round, and from then it just seemed to be a matter of time before he could overwhelm his opponent.

Firing off a crisp 1-2 combination in the third round, Holloway turned it on, waited for one of Aldo’s signature counter hooks to fly back at him before knocking the champion to the ground with another perfectly timed combination. From there it was just a matter of time before he overwhelmed his opponent with a swarm of ground and pound strikes that ultimately forced referee “Big John” McCarthy to step in and wave off the fight.

Reactions to Holloway’s stunning victory flew thick and fast, with many of his UFC peers heralding the beginning of the “Blessed” era for the UFC’s 145-pound division.

Holloway called out UFC president Dana White as he exited the cage to “pay the man, pay me money!” and with such a victory under his belt, he surely cannot be denied. The newly crowned featherweight champion is now riding an eleven fight win streak, with contenders Frankie Edgar and Cub Swanson now eagerly waiting in the wings for their own shots at the strap.
