WHAT ARE THOSE: Júnior Albini’s Fight Attire Has Been Savagely Mocked

The only heavyweight clash on the UFC Fight Night 120 card saw two men at opposite ends of their career face off inside the Octagon when Júnior Albini and Andrei Arlovski went at it.

The 26-year-old Albini was coming off a barnstorming victory in which he not only knocked Timothy Johnson in the first round of their fight but also earned a Performance of the Night bonus. What makes that feat even more remarkable is the fact that he did in in his UFC debut.

On top of his appearance fee, Albini pocketed the $50,000 bonus and became an instant fan favourite with his post-fight interview. That bonus changed everything for the young man.

“I didn’t have money to train, but I believed in this career,” Albini said before this fight. “People thought this wouldn’t take me anywhere, and that fight, that bonus, it all changed everything. It gave me more peace to train and focus on this. I showed everyone that it was worthy. That’s what changed the most. My wife always believed in me, she pushed me to believe that I would get in the UFC one day, and that victory was hers as well.”

A hell of a way to start your UFC career

After such an impressive debut, Albini knew that he would be in line to challenge a decent fighter next but he was surprised to get the number 13 ranked heavyweight, Andrei Arlovski.

“I left a good impression, so I expected a good fight for me next, but I never imagined that it would be against Arlovski,” Albini said. “He fought Fedor [Emelianenko] eight or nine years ago, and I never imagined fighting someone like him. I always looked up to him, so it was hard to believe.”

On top of being at the opposite ends of their respective careers, these men were coming into this one with vastly differing fortunes inside the cage of late: Albini was riding a 10-fight winning streak with eight stoppages while Arlovski had lost five straight with four finishes, leading many to speculate that another loss here could spell the end of his UFC career.

The Brazilian believed that fact would affect the way his storied opponent planned to approach their matchup.

“He’s not in a good moment in his career,” Albini said. “He’s coming off five losses, so he’s not that confident anymore to stand and trade. His game depends on confidence, and he’s not that confident to take risks. I expect him to fight safer, to punch and try to grapple.

“Everyone is saying that this could be his last fight depending on how he performs, so all the pressure is on him. I’m focused and ready for him. I believe I’m better prepared and with a good head, and I’m happy with this big opportunity in my career.”

Although losing to Andrei, Junior’s fight attire had the internet talking. Paul Felder on the broadcast said it looked like Junior was wearing a diaper, and the internet agreed. Take a look at them here:
