Mike Tyson Just Gave Anthony Joshua One Of The Biggest Compliments Ever
Newly crowned heavyweight king Anthony Joshua was the hot favorite heading into his bout with veteran boxer Wladimir Klitschko at the weekend, despite never having fought an opponent as highly rated as the Ukrainian heavyweight. The British fighter has proved plenty of people wrong in his short four years as a professional boxer, winning all eighteen of his fights by knockout. He entered the ring this weekend with some powerful words in his ear, courtesy of former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, whom he has been consistently compared to with his incredible gift to put any man to sleep.
Speaking with Johnny Nelson on Sky Sports, Tyson said he was really “looking forward to this one.”
“I’m excited we are going to get to see Joshua. He is just a beast. A big beast… Joshua reminds me of a young George Foreman,” said Tyson.
“He is just wrecking anyone that’s in front of him to get to the top. He is demolishing everyone.
“In my mind, it’s got to be Joshua early on – and I hope he does it – but if it goes late it could be Klitschko.”
Foreman was undefeated in forty fights before facing off against Muhammad Ali back in 1974. He later retired in 1977, but then returned to the ring ten years later and proved to the world that he could still box with the best of them. Coming from a boxer of Mike Tyson’s caliber, that has got to be a hell of a compliment to hear as you head into the biggest fight of your life against one of the world’s most skilled boxers.
Contrary to Tyson’s thoughts, the fight between Joshua and Klitschko reached the eleventh round, with Joshua coming back strong after getting knocked down in the sixth. Showing tremendous grit, the British boxer fought his way back to eventually dominate Klitschko with powerful strikes, sending him crashing to the mat in an incredible finish.
Joshua later called out former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in his post-fight speech.
“Tyson, where you at baby? Tyson Fury, I know you’ve been talking and want to come back,” he said. “I just wanna fight everyone.”
