[WATCH]Conor McGregor Commentating His Own Fight Is Absolutely Brilliant
A video has been released of UFC lightweight champion (and now former dual weight/featherweight champion) Conor McGregor commentating over his fight with Dustin Poirier, in which he famously knocked the American out in the first round.
While it was only his fourth fight in the UFC, McGregor was confident in his ability to finish Poirier, going so far as to predict that he would finish his opponent in the first round. McGregor would later become known as “Mystic Mac” to many fans for his accurate predictions of how his fights would play out.
“You can quote me on this, when you wake up after your head clatters off the canvas, you will know it’s not all talk. What happened?”, asks McGregor. “He woke up after his head clattered off the canvas. It’s not all talk no more. I don’t just knock them out, I pick the round.”
There was bad blood aplenty in the lead up to the bout, with McGregor constantly taking shots at Poirier in the media, attempting to rile his opponent up and make him question himself. This theme continued when the two found themselves face ot face inside the octagon, with McGregor continually asking “What you got boy? Is that all you’ve got boy?” of his opponent.
“He’s got good skills but, good is not enough. You can be great, but it’s still two shades off of what I am”, said McGregor while rewatching the fight. “Look at him, he’s like Bambi…”
Poirier moved up to the lightweight division following his TKO loss to McGregor.
He later went on a four fight win streak, before being knocked out by Michael Johnson in September. There had been speculation that there may eventually be a rematch between McGregor and Poirier, but for now we will have to watch “The Diamond” build himself back up. McGregor is currently out of action until after May 2017 as he awaits the birth of his first child with his girlfriend.
